Revolutionary Spoils Rotten System
.

Ben got 74,794 votes, far higher than any of the previous Green candidates for MSU Board of Trustees, even though he was running on a far more radical (and openly socialist) platform. He may have "spoiled" the election of Democrat Phil Thompson, who lost to Republican Melanie Foster by less than a quarter of the votes received by Burgis. Given Thomspon's failure to come out for living wages for university employees or against MSU helping the Pentagon kill Iraqis, we wouldn't advise any of the progressive rank-and-file Democrats that defected to our campaign in this race to cry too many tears over this outcome. Any one upset by the result should, however, work hard for Instant Runoff Voting and porportional representation, since the 74,794 voters who cast their ballots to oppose the war and support workers' rights aren't going anywhere.

Red-TV Flyers for Burgis
.

The good people at Red TV have been flyering for Burgis in the final days of the campaign. Want to help? Their half-page flyers can be downloaded here and here. Also, supporters should check out the Socialist Party of Michigan's official full-page flyer for its entire slate here.

LAHR-PAC gives Burgis 'positive' rating
.

The Lansing Association for Human Rights PAC, which rates candidates for the MSU Board of Trustees as "negative" or "positive" in their positions of LGBT issues but does not endorse them, has given Ben a "positive" rating.

This rating and those of other candidates for the same position will be widely sent out by the LAHR-PAC before the election. The Burgis campaign takes this as an important affirmation of the fact that a vote for Ben is not just a vote for the various issue positions emphasized in the campaign, but also a vote to put a strong advocate of the rights of all the oppressed on the Board of Trustees.

The Socialist Party of Michigan endorses Burgis for MSU Trustee
.

On Saturday, July 10, Ben Burgis received an unanimous endorsement by the Socialist Party of Michigan for his run for MSU Trustee. Burgis is an active member of the Socialist Party. Visit their website at http://www.spmichigan.org.

Burgis nominated by the Green Party of Michigan
.
On May 23 at the Green Party of Michigan State-Wide Nominating Convention in Peshabestown, MI, Burgis was unanimously nominated to be the GPMI's candidate for Michigan State University's Board of Trustees. He is excited to be the only candidate on the ballot this fall who will even be raising issues around economic justice for MSU employees on the one hand and the need to break up the "military-educational complex" on the other.
